Childbirth Classes

 This Online class is taught by a Lactation Consultant or Certified Lactation Councilor and helps you understand the why's and how's and tricks for an easier start to Breastfeeding! Brief discussion of bottles, pumping and working while feeding. 

This class covers all the basic childbirth topics in person and with lots of activities. Class also includes log-in access to an online childbirth resource center for additional information. Please bring your partner or support person and prepare to have fun and learn about the birthing process from experts! We will meet on the 3rd floor Conference room A.

This class what to do in emergencies. Choking, CPR, use of an AED, and a first aid summary are included. This knowledge can save your child's life in an emergency! It also makes a great safety course for grandparents and other family members who may be caring for your precious newborn. This class is in the Marillac room at Sisters Hospital on the first floor.

This class gives you a bit of what to expect in the first six months with your baby! We discuss care of your newborn, health concerns to watch for, and challenges all new parents face. You will receive a book with online access to multiple tools and apps for future reference.   Questions make the class much more interactive, please come with lots of them!

This Prenatal Yoga 4-week series is designed to prepare the mind and body for labor and delivery. Taught by an experienced yoga practitioner, birth doula and prenatal educator, this class will utilize asanas, meditation, relaxation and breathing techniques while providing effective tools for coping with the intensity of labor.

This is an ACTIVITY based class and appropriate for all three trimesters.  Please dress comfortably and be ready (maybe with a yoga mat, pillow and water bottle) to practice the yoga poses.  This is currently being offered as an in-person class with a virtual option and lasts 1 hour.

Are you at risk for, or have you been diagnosed with, gestational diabetes? Join our introductory class designed to help you better understand gestational diabetes and how to care for yourself  and your baby during this important time. 

Potential Risk Factors: 
• Personal or family medical history 
• Aged 35 or older 
• Ethnicity: African American, Hispanic, American Indian, or Pacific Islander 
• Lifestyle 

While this class is not a substitute for a one-on-one consultation with a registered dietitian, it offers a foundational overview to empower you with knowledge and confidence as you navigate  your pregnancy journey.

One hour time spots available for 1:1 car seat safety installation assistance with a Child Passenger Safety Technician. If you already have a car seat for your child - please bring it with you. This time is to review the safety features of your car seat and look at installation into your vehicle. (If you do not have a vehicle, we will practice installation on our training seat.) There is a great Webex class to watch before your appointment if you get a chance - it is free at www.chsbuffalo.org/carseatsafety - if you are hoping to receive a grant seat at your appointment, you NEED to watch this class and do the quiz at the end!
We will be doing the car seat checks outside - PLEASE dress for the weather!

This motherhood group is for all expecting and new moms (friend or partner welcome if you'd like!) to discuss educational topics, challenges and needs. Raffles and prizes every week and refreshments provided. Registration is encouraged but not required. Sign up in the Maternal Health Equity Center or call 716-862-2342. This class covers preparing for Childbirth in more detail with a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator and experienced Labor and Delivery professionals. We look forward to getting to know you in this interactive class.

This class is for Moms delivery partner since you are her main family support in the hospital for comfort in labor. Additionally, this class gives you the chance to ask questions and get good information about what to watch for physically, emotionally, and medically before and after the birth of the baby. This does not cover baby care as that is addressed in Babytalk!

This Baby & Me Yoga 4-week series is designed to encourage bonding between baby and caregiver though yoga poses and activities. Taught by an experienced yoga practitioner, birth doula and prenatal educator, this class will utilize asanas, meditation, relaxation and breathing techniques while providing effective tools for parenthood.

This is an ACTIVITY based class. Please dress comfortably and be ready (maybe with a yoga mat, pillow and water bottle) to practice the yoga poses.  This is currently being offered as an in-person class.

Any caregiver should be at least 6-weeks postpartum and approved for physical activity by the Obstetrician.

Babies aged 6-weeks to crawling (approx. 5 months) are welcome in this class.

This class covers preparing for Childbirth in great detail with experienced Labor and Delivery professionals. We look forward to getting to know you in this interactive class.

(The evening class is a bit more condensed than the weekend class so we don't get out too late, but still includes a tour of Labor and Delivery and Mother Baby.)

A closer look at taking care of yourself after your baby is born. This class focuses on regaining strength in your core muscles and pelvic floor as well as avoiding complications in the weeks and months after the birth of your baby. Class will be in the Marillac Room on the 1st floor.

The arrival of multiples is amazing! This class is intended to add to the Prepared Childbirth Class or the Prepared Cesarean Delivery class for parents expecting more than one new arrival. This class will give you more information about what is happening both during your pregnancy the differences at time of birth and in the early days!
