Addiction is a disease, plain and simple. It is not a choice. When a person is struggling with addiction, the hardest step toward recovery is often the first one: picking up the phone, asking for help, and walking through the door. That’s why the Clearview Program at Mount St. Mary’s Hospital matters so much.

Clearview is a 28-day inpatient addiction rehabilitation program for people ready to begin recovery. It’s not a detox center. It’s a structured, therapeutic place where patients can step away from everything pulling them down, reflect, and begin building the tools they’ll need to move forward.

I joined Clearview in 2023, and I’m incredibly proud of what happens here every day. Addiction carries heavy stigma. Many patients arrive feeling embarrassed and ashamed. Some have lost jobs, family support, or even custody of their children. They have to work twice as hard to get healthy and begin rebuilding. When patients complete our program, they often leave notes that say, “This program literally saved my life.” I still get goosebumps reading those words. It reminds me why we do this work. What makes Clearview special is our team and the judgment-free care they provide. One person patients always remember is Robin Williams, our Nurse Practitioner. Robin is genuine and endlessly compassionate. She’s the kind of person you meet once and just know was put on this earth to make a difference.

That’s why this March 30, I want to recognize Robin Williams, NP, on Doctors’ Day, along with the entire Clearview team. It’s a time to honor caregivers whose skill and compassion help people find their way back to hope.

I invite you to join me by honoring a caregiver who has made a difference in your life or the life of someone you love. You can make a gift using the enclosed form or donate securely online at CHSBuffalo.org/ Foundation. You may also share your story by completing the enclosed tribute card. The urgency is real. With the current substance use epidemic, addiction is impacting more families, and the battle is harder than ever. Keeping someone engaged in treatment—feeling safe, supported, and connected—can truly save a life. Your support of The Foundation of Catholic Health strengthens programs like Clearview, so more people can step into recovery and stay there.

With gratitude,
