It started out as a regular Saturday evening. My partner and I were leaving a restaurant when I caught my toe on the sidewalk and went down hard. I was in a lot of pain and pretty shaken up. He drove me straight to Lockport Memorial Hospital.
They took care of me right away. A security guard greeted us at the entrance and got me into a wheelchair. By the time my partner parked the car and came back inside, they had already registered me and were taking me to a room.
Everyone was so kind and gentle. They did an X-ray of my shoulder and a CT scan of my head since I hit the concrete. I’m claustrophobic, but they reassured me and talked me through the test.
Just to be safe, they decided to keep me overnight. The doctors and nurses kept checking to see how I was doing and giving me updates. Even the breakfast the next morning was fantastic! It may be small, but the little things matter when you’re going through a scary moment.
I ended up being fine, but I’m thankful for how easy it was to get help when I needed it. Lockport Memorial is close to home, and in a situation like that, you don’t want to travel far or sit waiting for hours. That’s why on March 30, I want to recognize Drs. Navern Seth and Shikha Joshia, along with the entire emergency team at Lockport Memorial Hospital on Doctors’ Day. It’s a chance to thank people who are there when you need them most.
I invite you to help me celebrate Doctors’ Day this year with a gift in honor of your caregiver. You can make a gift using the enclosed form or donate securely at CHSBuffalo.org/Foundation. If a caregiver at Lockport Memorial has touched your life or the life of someone you love, I encourage you to recognize them by completing the enclosed tribute card.
Your continued support of The Foundation of Catholic Health helps ensure that care is available in our community when something unexpected happens.
With thanks,

Gail Niezgoda
