Kenmore, NY – Kenmore Mercy Hospital’s Emergency Department (ED) has earned Level 3 Geriatric Emergency Department Accreditation (GEDA) from the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP). The GEDA program recognizes emergency departments across the country that provide patient-centered care specifically designed for older adults.
“This accreditation affirms our Emergency Department’s dedication to delivering high-quality, evidence-based care tailored to the unique needs of older adults,” said Dr. Michael Mangione, Catholic Health’s Associate Chair of Emergency Medicine. “Providing exceptional geriatric care means bringing together a multidisciplinary team – including Care Management, Social Work, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, nurses and medical providers – to ensure that every older patient, especially those with complex conditions, receive compassionate and coordinated care aligned with national best practices.”
The GEDA program outlines specific criteria and goals for emergency clinicians and administrators to meet. A Level 3 emergency department must incorporate many of these best practices, provide interdisciplinary geriatric education, and have geriatric appropriate equipment and supplies available.
