After childbirth, it is common for moms to experience mood swings, anxiety, sadness or irritability. You may have trouble sleeping or have a reduced appetite. These are typically known as the baby blues.
Postpartum depression/anxiety is similar to the baby blues, but your symptoms are more intense and will last longer. Symptoms usually develop within the first few weeks after giving birth, but may begin later, up to one year after birth.
Postpartum Anxiety and Depression Support Group
Do you have a baby under two years old and are suffering from postpartum anxiety and/or depression? Every three months we offer a closed support group called No Mother Left Behind. This group starts fresh every three months, meaning that the first week starts with a new group of moms who stay together for the next six classes and once the six classes are over, you have completed the process! We cover issues such as: coping tools, treatment options, attachment with your baby, mindfulness and much more.
The group meets every other Thursday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Piver Center, located on the Sisters Hospital campus in Buffalo. All meetings are free to attend and facilitated by a licensed mental health counselor with specialized training in postpartum support. If you are interested or have any questions please call Amy Creamer at (716) 862-1678 to reserve your spot in our next group!
