Working as a firefighter in North Tonawanda for nearly 20 years, and as a paramedic for 30 years – not to mention years of arthritis and playing sports – my knees were shot. But the prospect of knee replacement surgery was concerning. Would I be able to return to a job I love?

I was understandably nervous, but as it turns out, I had nothing to worry about, thanks to Dr. Sridhar Rachala an orthopedic surgeon and the staff at Kenmore Mercy Hospital.

On the day of surgery, everyone, from the admissions staff to the security guard who guided my wife to the coffee shop, made an anxious time easier. As a paramedic, I know what it takes to care for patients and focus on their needs. Dr. Rachala and Kenmore Mercy exceeded my expectations. He is amazing – he treated me as if I was his only patient, taking the time to explain every detail of the surgery.

My experience was the same when I had replacement surgery on my other knee earlier this year. I am now pain-free and will return to work in April. When I thanked Dr. Rachala for his incredible care, he said, “That’s my job.” Well, I’m just grateful his job helped me get back to mine.
