Award-winning Care

Kenmore Mercy Hospital has been recognized as the best rated hospital in the Buffalo area and among the top ten percent of hospitals in the nation for joint replacement for the third year in a row (2007 - 2009) by HealthGrades, the leading independent healthcare ratings company. In addition, Kenmore Mercy Hospital received several other HealthGrades accolades:
- Recipient of the HealthGrades Joint Replacement Excellence Award™ - 3 years in a row (2007 - 2009)
- Five-Star Rated for Joint Replacement - 3 years in a row (2007 - 2009)
- Five-Star Rated for Total Knee Replacement - 3 years in a row (2007 - 2009)
- Five-Star Rated for Total Hip Replacement - 3 years in a row (2007 - 2009)
In developing its 2009 healthcare quality ratings, HealthGrades analyzed more than 41 million Medicare patient records from 2005 to 2007 at approximately 5,000 non-federal hospitals across the county. Risk-adjusted mortality and complication rates were calculated and hospitals were assigned a 1-star (poor), 3-star (as expected), or 5-star (best) quality rating for 28 diagnoses and procedures from heart failure to hip replacement to pneumonia.

Excellence in Performance Improvement Leadership
For 2004, Kenmore Mercy Hospital was named as one of the top 100 Hospitals - Performance Improvement Leaders in the Country by Thomson, a leading provider of strategic business and clinical information for the healthcare industry. Kenmore Mercy and its senior management team were recognized for consistently improving overall performance at a substantially faster rate than other U.S. hospitals. The study looked at several key areas over a five-year period from 1999-2003, including quality, operational efficiency, financial performance, and growth.
Excellence in Orthopedic Medicine
Kenmore Mercy Hospital was named as one of the top 100 Orthopedic Hospitals in the country following the release of an independent study – 100 Top Hospitals: Orthopedic Benchmarks for Success. The study, conducted by HCIA and The Health Network, identified the 100 overall best-performing hospitals for orthopedic services including knee replacements, hip replacements, and fracture repair. Kenmore Mercy was one of only two hospitals in New York State selected from hospitals across the country to receive the 1999 100 Top Orthopedic Hospitals Award attaining a national benchmark level for knee replacement procedures.
