A native of Williamsville, NY, Dr. Karpie received his medical degree from the University at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences.
He completed his internship in general surgery and his residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC), where he also worked as an attending orthopedic trauma surgeon.
Board-certified in orthopedic surgery, Dr. Karpie worked as a clinical instructor and general orthopedist at the VA Healthcare system in Pittsburgh PA, where he performed a number of orthopedic procedures including ACL reconstructions, rotator cuff repairs, and hip and knee replacements on our nation’s veterans of foreign wars.
He completed a fellowship in orthopedic sports medicine at the New England Baptist Hospital in Boston MA, served as assistant team physician for the NBA’s Boston Celtics., a clinical instructor at Tuft’s University School of Medicine, and team physician for the Tufts University Jumbos. He also spent time at Boston Children’s Hospital learning comprehensive assessment, treatment, and follow-up care for children, adolescents and young adults with sports-related orthopedic injuries.
Dr. Karpie specializes in all sports related orthopedic injuries, concentrating on the arthroscopic treatment of knee and shoulder disorders, including ACL, meniscus, and cartilage injuries, as well as rotator cuff injuries and shoulder instability. Other interests include comprehensive fracture care, and total hip, knee, and shoulder replacement surgery.
