Welcome to the Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program at Sisters of Charity Hospital in Buffalo, New York. We are pleased that you are considering our program for your training in the rewarding field of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Our four-year residency program is sponsored by the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the University at Buffalo and was first accredited by the ACGME in 1947. We received a four-year accreditation during our last on-site review in 2010 and are currently meeting the ACGME requirements for annual accreditation. We have completed our ten-year self-study and look forward to the upcoming site visit during the 2019 – 2020 academic year.
The physicians who practice at Sisters are committed to the mission and values of the hospital and dedicated to the education and training of our residents. The residents participate in the care of every Ob/Gyn patient admitted to the hospital. We all work together in a collegial environment to provide high quality care for some of our community’s highest risk patients and to meet our educational goals. In keeping with our long-standing tradition of osteopathic education and practice, we will be pursuing osteopathic recognition with the ACGME.
As a resident at Sisters of Charity Hospital, you will receive a comprehensive education that encompasses the breadth and depth of the specialty including care for high-risk obstetrical patients, hands-on ultrasound training, a robust experience in laparoscopic and robotic-assisted surgery, exposure to a busy infertility practice, the surgical and medical treatment of gynecologic malignancies, as well as primary care and ambulatory gynecology in your weekly continuity clinic at the hospital-based Sisters Ob/Gyn Center. Our purpose is to impart the medical knowledge, technical skill, clinical judgment, communication acumen and professional responsibility that will enable you to provide excellent care for women and achieve your full potential as a board certificated Obstetrician-Gynecologist. We understand the importance of communication, team work, surgical simulation and emergency training. As a graduate of our program, you will be confident in your ability to practice as a generalist or pursue fellowship.
Your training in Ob/Gyn will be enriched by the experience of working alongside residents in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Otolaryngology and Pharmacy. You will also become educators yourself as you teach medical students from UB as well as rotators from the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine and Physician Assistant students from Daemen College. The Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the University at Buffalo appoints all residents as clinical instructors and provides development as educators through their Resident as Educators program.
We continually strive to improve the quality of the educational opportunities that we provide our residents. We routinely seek resident input and invite all residents to participate in the annual program evaluation process. The program leadership is here to support you in any way that we can to help you achieve your academic and career goals while developing into a compassionate and competent Obstetrician-Gynecologist.
