Speech therapy treats conditions that affect your speech, voice, swallowing and other related disorders. Whether recovering from a stroke, managing a developmental delay, or improving communication skills, our licensed speech-language pathologists (SLPs) are here to help you or your loved one succeed.

Our therapists work with patients to improve their ability to speak clearly, understand language, express thoughts, and safely swallow food and liquids.

Our therapy programs are tailored to each patient’s unique needs and may include:

  • Strengthening muscles of the throat and neck to support safe swallowing and vocal production.
  • Improving tongue movement and coordination for clearer articulation and speech fluency.
  • Expanding vocabulary and grammar to enhance expressive language.
  • Increasing comprehension of spoken and written directions for better everyday communication.

Conditions Our Speech Therapy Treats

Our Speech Therapy departments have expertise in the diagnosis and treatment in the following areas:

  • Dysphagia (swallowing disorders): Difficulty swallowing due to neurological conditions, surgery, or aging.
  • Aphasia: Impaired ability to speak, understand, read, or write, often following a stroke or brain injury.
  • Cognitive-communication disorders: Challenges with memory, attention, problem-solving, and organization.
  • Voice disorders: Hoarseness, vocal fatigue, or pitch issues caused by vocal strain or medical conditions.

Advanced Diagnostic Tools

Modified Barium Swallow Study (MBSS)

Also known as a videofluoroscopic swallow study, the MBSS is a real-time X-ray procedure that evaluates how food and liquids move through the mouth and throat. It helps our teams identify aspiration risks and guides safe dietary recommendations.

VitalStim™ Therapy

VitalStim™ is an FDA-cleared, non-invasive treatment that uses neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) to activate and retrain the muscles involved in swallowing. It is especially effective for patients with dysphagia due to stroke, Parkinson’s disease, or head and neck cancer.
