Requirements for Completion of a PGY-2 Emergency Medicine at Mercy Hospital of Buffalo

Requirements for Completion of PGY2 EM Residency:

  • Complete 12 months of full time service.
  • Pharmacist licensure in New York is expected prior to start of residency. If licensure is not in place by start of residency, then New York internship license is required. Proof of passing all testing requirements for New York State pharmacist licensure (NABP, MPJE) must be demonstrated within 30 days of the start of the residency. Full New York licensure must be obtained within 90 days from the start of the residency.
  • Maintain certification in BLS, ACLS and PALS (or complete within first 2 months).
  • Completion of the D’Youville Basic Teaching Certificate (equivalent experience during PGY1 accepted).
  • Successful completion of all required rotation learning experiences defined as completion of all activities, projects, writing experiences, presentations, work products, etc. specified for each scheduled learning experience (see each learning experience description for specific requirements/type/number).
  • Resident must maintain a portfolio on the shared drive with a folder for each learning experience containing all work products created by the resident during that learning experience (e.g. presentations, topic discussions, cases, MUE, in-services) – include date and audience as appropriate.
  • A minimum of one ADR/medication error per non-elective rotation (minimum of 10) must be submitted in MIDAS.
  • 90% of ASHP objectives need to be ACHR.
  • Completion of all assigned evaluations in PharmAcademic.
  • Staffing requirements (every third weekend) and two holidays; Resident must make up any time missed for illness.
  • Attend and participate in all Catholic Health Emergency Medicine Pharmacist meetings.
  • Projects:
    • Prepare or revise a minimum drug class review, monograph, treatment guideline, or protocol.
    • Prepare and conduct a minimum of one medication use evaluation.
    • Participate in a project that relates to the contribution of departmental management (e.g staff competency, update emergency department training guide).
    • Submit one article for the Pharmacy Newsletter or equivalent written pharmacist communication.
  • Research Project:
    • Successful submission of a research project to IRB.
    • Oral presentation of a completed project at a local, regional, or national conference.
    • Submission of manuscript in publishable format and approved by project preceptor.
  • Presentations:
    • Prepare and conduct a minimum of two health professional education programs using effective presentation and teaching skills.
    • Prepare and conduct a minimum of one journal club.
    • Prepare one topic discussion for the PGY1 residents and appropriately assess effectiveness of education.
  • Participate in PGY2 resident interview sessions including serving as host/tour guide, participating in interview and in ranking process.
  • Completion of all appendix direct and non-direct patient care experiences/topic discussions as documented below on activity tracker.
  • Submission of end-of-year completed graduation tracking form.
