Summer Teen Program

Due to COVID-19 protocol the volunteer services program at Catholic Health has been temporarily suspended.

We are still accepting and reviewing applications as they come in, and will contact all applicants for an interview once the suspension has been lifted.

We are still planning on holding our summer teen program in July and August.

Thank you for understanding. Please be well.

Summer Teen Program

Are you a high school student looking for a rewarding and potentially life changing experience this summer? Do you have an interest in a future career in healthcare? Perhaps you have required service hours for school or another organization? The Summer Teen Volunteer program at Catholic Health can help you with that!

The Summer Teen Volunteer program is designed to engage participants in meaningful patient encounters and experiences, while providing a valuable service to our ministries through hospitality and creative arts activities. Since its inception in 2015, over 800 high school students have become involved in this exciting program. We would love for YOU to join our team too!

Summer Teen Volunteer Program FAQs

What Will I Do?

This list is a sampling of activities our teen volunteers participate in. Specific assignment is based on ministry need and volunteer availability.

  • Hospitality - Volunteers offer beverage service, mail and flower delivery, activities, friendly conversation, and other non-clinical services as needed.
  • Creative and Performing Arts - Volunteers bring joy to our patients and residents through art, activities, and music. There are several locations with pianos in their lobbies and musicians of all types are always welcome!
  • Volunteer Express - Volunteers are dispatched from the express center to participate in a variety of helpful activities throughout the hospital ministries and departments.
  • Information Desk Attendants - assist as escorts and/or customer service assistants in our lobbies and waiting rooms.
  • Unit Companions - Several of our ministries off opportunities for teens to directly engage with patients/ residents. These positions are generally reserved for volunteers 16 years or older who are either returning summer teens or completing service hours for an academic program or college application that requires direct patient contact (must provide proof). Units include Surgical Services, Maternal Child, and Emergency Room.

Benefits of Volunteering

Besides a feeling of personal satisfaction, skills building, experience, and the opportunity to build new friendships, teen volunteers receive other benefits such as a free meal daily, a free modern and stylish athletic polo shirt, invitation to the associate summer picnic, and a variety of other tangible tokens of our appreciation!

All of our summer teen volunteers also receive an official verification letter of service hours provided at the end of the summer!
