Spiritual Care

Our system is committed to giving support spiritually, emotionally and psychologically to patients as they move through their illness.

Often, when people are diagnosed with an illness, they are stunned. They may not be able to do anything about the illness and they never expected it to happen to them. At times like this, people need support in talking about their situation.

Our spiritual care professionals assist patients, family and staff in understanding the relationship between the physical, emotional, social and spiritual aspects of one’s well-being. We use a multi-faceted approach to healing which can include art and music.

Services for All Faiths

Qualified chaplains from several faith traditions respond to needs through consultation, prayer, counseling and provision of Sacramental ministry.

Spiritual care professionals:

• affirm the dignity and value of each individual
• respect the right of each faith group to hold to its values and traditions
• respect the cultural, ethnic, gender, racial, sexual-orientation, and religious diversity of others and strive to eliminate discrimination

24-Hour Support

Qualified chaplains from several faith tradiations are on call 24 hours-a-day.

They are available around-the-clock to be present, to listen, to encourage, to support and to pray with patients as they and their families journey through the healing process.

Spiritual care is offered to patients, residents, families and employees throughout Catholic Health.

Mercy Hospital of Buffalo

Chaplains

A chaplain can be reached through a nurse, any hospital staff member, or the hospital operator by dialing “0”.

Chapel

The Mercy Chapel, located on the third floor, is a place of quiet religious beauty for prayer and meditation and is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. All masses are broadcast live on patient televisions, Channel 28.

Catholic Mass Schedule

• Monday - Friday: 12 p.m.
• Sunday: 6:30 a.m.

Kenmore Mercy Hospital

Chaplains

A Spiritual Care staff member may be called at any time by dialing the operator or by contacting your nurse.

The Spiritual Care office is located across from the Chapel on the second floor and can be reached by calling 447-6191.

Chapel

The hospital chapel, located on the second floor, is a place of quiet religious beauty for prayer and meditation.

It is open 24-hours every day.

Religious services are open to all and are held in the chapel unless otherwise noted. Chapel masses are also broadcast over Channel 13 on the hospital’s closed-circuit television system.

A chaplain is available 24-hours-a-day and can be reached through a nurse, any staff member or by dialing 0 and asking for the chaplain on call.

Chapel

The Marillac Chapel, located on the second floor, is a place for prayer and meditation. It is open 24-hours-a-day.

Religious services are open to all and are held as follows:

Catholic Mass Schedule

• Sundays and Holy Days - 8 a.m.
• Monday - 11 a.m.
• Tuesday - 11:30 a.m.
• Wednesday - 11 a.m.
• Thursday - Friday - 11:30 a.m.
• Saturday - 5:30 p.m.

Protestant Worship Schedule

• Tuesday - 2 p.m.

For our home care patients, chaplains may be contacted through the patient's nurse, therapist, aide or through the Home Care Office at (716) 685-4870.

Professional Development

Catholic Health promotes excellence in its spiritual care ministry by training chaplains through its accredited Clinical Pastoral Education Program.
