If your doctor suspects that you have a sleep disorder, he or she may recommend a sleep study. The testing process that is used to determine your sleeping condition is called polysomnography. The results will determine whether you have a sleep disorder and what kind of treatment will improve your sleep.
What you should Expect
The moment you enter the SleepCare Center, a respiratory therapist will greet and escort you to your private room. The SleepCare Center is designed to provide a hotel-like environment rather than a traditional hospital setting. Your modern bedroom is equipped with a queen size bed, television and a private bath, offering all the comforts of home.
Monitoring Your Sleep
Patients are monitored continuously while they sleep. During the test period, we will be able to monitor your brain waves, eye movements, heart rate, breathing pattern, muscle activity, and oxygen levels. The procedure is not painful and should not interfere with your sleep. The results of the test will help us to determine your sleep pattern and recognize abnormal conditions.
What Happens Next
After your stay at the Center, your sleep record will be reviewed and analyzed. A complete report, including treatment recommendations, is forwarded to your referring physician. Schedule a follow-up appointment with your doctor to discuss your results.
