Who Is Occupational Therapy For?

Occupational therapy is often prescribed for people with spinal cord injuries, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy or mental illness. It is also prescribed for those who have experienced a stroke.

What is Occupational Therapy?

Occupational therapy improves your ability to care for yourself, function at home and at work, and participate in leisure activities.

Therapy teaches you how to adjust activities when appropriate. For patients with permanent disabilities, it may include instruction in using wheelchairs and other adaptive equipment .

We can:

  • Restore your life skills and help you return to work
  • Determine if you need adaptive equipment, such as raised toilet seats or tub seats
  • Show you how to conserve your energy and protect your joints
  • Help you to increase your strength and range of motion
