Hand Therapy

Hand therapy can relieve pain and improve function in the hand and wrist.

Catholic Health Hand Physical Therapy

Your therapist will teach you exercises to promote healing and how to change your behavior or movements to reduce injury. He or she may apply a splint or other tool to restore your hand function. At home, you will need to follow an exercise program, which will be based on your individual needs.

Hand therapy can help patients with many conditions, including:

  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Tendon injuries
  • Trigger finger
  • Tennis elbow / golfer’s elbow
  • DeQuervain’s tendinitis
  • Sprains or strains of the hand (fingers, wrist)
  • Extensor tendon injuries
  • Mallet finger
  • Hand and thumb arthritis
  • Dupuytren’s contracture
  • Fractures and dislocations
  • Amputations

Length of Appointments

A therapy session is typically 60 or 90 minutes long.

Most patients initially require therapy two to three times per week. However, your therapist will decide the length of treatment based on your evaluation.
