At Catholic Health, our Certified Hand Therapists (CHT) are occupational or physical therapists who have been in practice for at least 5 years and have spent over 4,000 hours working with the upper extremity of the body. They also continue their education after certification to remain experts in the field.
Treating Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and Other Hand Conditions
When you visit a hand therapy location, a Certified Hand Therapist will perform an evaluation and customize a therapy program for you. This program may include exercise, activity modification, splints and other tools to restore function.
Conditions that we treat include:
- Carpal tunnel syndrome
- Trigger finger
- Tennis elbow / golfer’s elbow
- DeQuervain’s tendinitis
- Sprains or strains of the hand (fingers, wrist)
- Flexor tendon injuries
- Extensor tendon injuries
- Mallet finger
- Hand and thumb arthritis
- Dupuytren’s contracture
- Fractures and dislocations
A therapy session is typically 60 or 90 minutes long.
Most patients initially require therapy two to three times per week. However, your therapist will decide the length of treatment based on your evaluation.
Your recovery will also include a home exercise program, based on your needs. You may also need to perform scar tissue massage and other techniques at home to aid in your healing.
