physical therapy

Catholic Health's Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation program uses a team-based approach and the latest technology to provide innovative treatment options to restore your health.

Whether you are recovering from an illness or injury, or a life-altering event such as a stroke, heart attack, or recent childbirth, your body may need extra care to rebuild its strength, relieve pain, or relearn certain skills.

Our expert doctors and therapists will work with you to generate a program that is individualized to your specific condition. This may include a combination of multiple sessions in different settings, such as 60-minute therapy appointments, in-hospital medical rehabilitation units, and short-term rehab facilities.

Cardiac Rehabilitation at Catholic Health

For those who have experienced a cardiac event or underwent a heart procedure, recovery often requires specialized cardiac rehabilitation. Catholic Health's Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation program offers patients different plans for heart rehab based on their specific needs.

Cardiopulmonary rehabilitation is recommended for those recovering from congestive heart failure, bypass surgery, angioplasty, and other forms of heart disease. Our team will work with your care providers to determine if outpatient cardiac therapy or home and community-based care is right for you.

Stroke & Neuro Rehabilitation at Catholic Health

Stroke recovery often requires physical therapy and rehabilitation services to help patients regain physical, cognitive, and speech functions. Stroke rehab involves a multi-disciplinary team of therapists dedicated to assisting patients and ensuring they have the best recovery outcomes possible.

Along with stroke rehabilitation, our dedicated specialists are skilled in providing therapy services for those with different neurological conditions, such as: brain or spinal cord injuries, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, and more. Treatment plans rely on physical therapy, occupational therapy, and at times, speech-language therapy, depending on the needs of our patients.

Medical Rehabilitation Unit at Catholic Health

If you are recovering from a stroke, hip fracture, multiple fractures or complications from neurological conditions like Parkinson's or multiple sclerosis, you may need time in a medical rehabilitation unit. A doctor, case manager or discharge planner refers patients to these units.

Patients are discharged from the hospital and transferred to the medical rehabilitation unit. The average length of stay is 14 days. We use a team approach to provide services, which include:

  • Physical therapy
  • Occupational therapy
  • Speech therapy

Medical rehab units provide a higher level of rehabilitation than short-term rehab (subacute) facilities. You can request an evaluation to determine eligibility for these services. This request should be made to the hospital's rehab physician (physiatrist) or nurse practitioner, or to your discharge planner.
