Pre- & Postpartum Physical Therapy

Catholic Health Pre and Postpartum Physical Therapy

Much of the time, symptoms of pelvic pain and incontinence get misread in women. We try to rationalize them as a side effect of whichever stage we're in, whether it's menstruation, pregnancy, postpartum, or menopause. We think of it as "part of being a woman" or something we should "just deal with" as we get older, when really, this should rarely be the case.

Pelvic Rehabilitation During Pregnancy

Pregnancy should be a wonderful time in a woman's life, but accompanying symptoms of pain and discomfort can take away from this. Physical therapists who specialize in pelvic rehabilitation are trained to help expectant mothers overcome issues that arise during childbearing. As experts in treating the musculoskeletal system, they can offer:

  • Relief from aches and pains
  • Guidance for mothers through changes in their bodies
  • Instruction on how to stay safe and active during pregnancy

Postpartum Rehabilitation

After birth, a new mother's body has a great deal of healing and recovery to do. Abdominal muscles, as well as pelvic floor muscles, have been stretched and taxed for nine months. Returning these muscles to proper function and balance is imperative.

Common Conditions

Our physical therapists can help speed up the postpartum recovery as well as address any new concerns such as scarring, incontinence, or persistent low back pain.

  • Diastasis-recti
  • Low back/pelvic girdle pain
  • C-section or episiotomy scar pain
