Obstetrics focuses on the needs of pregnant women and their unborn baby or babies. Its goal is to provide professional, compassionate care during pregnancy, delivery and the period immediately following birth. The obstetrics team works together to ensure you get the attention you need to have the best possible pregnancy and birth experience.

Obstetrics

Within obstetrics, specially-trained nurses, certified nurse midwives and obstetricians are the primary care givers. Maternal Fetal Medicine specialists may also be a part of the obstetrics team.

Obstetricians have graduated from medical school and completed in four-year residency. A board-certified obstetrician has completed residency requirements and passed rigorous exams to determine their expertise.

Certified Nurse Midwives are licensed healthcare professionals who specialize in women’s reproductive health and childbirth.

Maternal Fetal Medicine specialists are doctors who focus on pregnant women with chronic health issues or issues that arise during pregnancy. They have completed an additional two to three years of education and training to become high-risk pregnancy experts.
