Gynecology is a branch of medicine that focuses on healthcare for women, especially the diagnosis and treatment of disorders.
Our gynecology services include:
Gynecologic Oncology
Our staff includes specialists in the treatment of ovarian and other gynecologic cancers. Patients are provided comprehensive services for all gynecologic malignancies throughout Catholic Health.
Services include:
Minimally Invasive Surgery
Minimally invasive gynecologic surgery, available at Mercy Hospital of Buffalo, treats benign and malignant gynecological conditions.
Instead of making the standard large incision into the abdomen, minimally invasive surgery utilizes a few very small incisions and a laparoscope. When necessary, robotic assisted laparoscopic surgery is utilized to allow even the most difficult surgeries to be performed in a minimally invasive way.
These approaches often allow women to go home the same day or the next, and to have a shorter and less painful recovery.
In August 2010, Dr. Scott Zuccala of Mercy Hospital's Obstetrics and Gynecology Department and Dr. Ali Ghomi of the Piver Center at Sisters Hospital were guests on WJYE-FM's Spotlight on Health program. They were the first surgeons in the Buffalo area to perform robotic-assisted, minimally invasive gynecological surgery for non-cancerous conditions using the state-of-the-art da Vinci® Robotic Surgical System.
