Spiritual Care at Home

Chaplains from several faith traditions visit hundreds of individuals in their homes each year to share stories and prayers, and support family members, caregivers and patients. They are experienced and trained to assist patients and their caregivers in understanding life’s events as they relate to their spiritual and emotional well-being.

If patients wish to continue their spiritual care beyond the home care period, chaplains make every effort to connect patients with their own religious communities.

Why Spiritual Care?

There are many reasons why clients and their families may need spiritual care. They may:

• Feel depressed or emotionally upset
• Need help coping with a crisis, such as the death of a loved one, diagnosis of a life-threatening illness, or other traumatic experience
• Be preparing for a life change such as admission into a nursing home
• Be dealing with a critical or terminal illness
• Want someone who will listen to their hopes, their fears and their uncertainties
• Express a need to experience inner healing, find meaning in life, have someone to pray with or talk about religious concerns
