Chemotherapy

Chemotherapy uses drugs to destroy cancer cells and to stop them from spreading. It can eliminate cancer cells at sites great distances from the original cancer.

Chemotherapy can be given through an IV (intravenously), a shot, a pill or liquid that you swallow or by a cream that is rubbed on your skin.

More than half of all people diagnosed with cancer receive chemotherapy. For millions of people, chemotherapy helps treat their cancer effectively, enabling them to enjoy full, productive lives.

You may receive chemotherapy alone, or it may be used in combination with radiation therapy.
