Gestational diabetes is a temporary form of diabetes in which a pregnant woman's blood sugar, or glucose levels, becomes elevated. Gestational diabetes increases the risk of complications for mother and baby, if not properly treated.
Gestational diabetes can be controlled through healthy eating, exercising, and medication, if needed.
This condition usually disappears after the baby is born. However, women who have had gestational diabetes are at an increased risk for Type 2 Diabetes.
