Depression

An interactive session focuses on positive concentration skills, differentiating between the blues and the blahs, emotional control and healing feelings. Medication interventions will be addressed.

Preventing Osteoporosis

Participants are encouraged to be proactive about building stronger, healthier bones. Discussion focuses on the importance of early detection, intervention and treatment. A free screening consisting of a peripheral heelscan is provided for attendees.

Breast Health Program for Teens

This program is designed for the teenage high school girl. Topics include breast health, self-exam techniques and the prevention of breast cancer with healthy lifestyles.

Ovarian Cancer

Ovarian Cancer is the fifth most common cause of death from cancer among women. An estimated 20,000 American women develop the disease and 15,000 die from it each year. Ovarian cancer, long considered a silent killer due to lack of warning signs. Get the facts; know the symptoms.

Childbirth Education (fee applies)

Childbirth classes at Mercy Hospital of Buffalo and Sisters of Charity Hospital:

  • Prepared Childbirth – Perfect for the first time mom, classes cover relaxation and breathing techniques, role of the labor companion, nutrition during pregnancy, physical and emotional changes of pregnancy, and signs and stages of labor.
     
  • Prepared Childbirth Refresher Course – For the family who has been down this road before, we offer a refresher class to re-familiarize you with what to expect during and after pregnancy, and during labor.
     
  • Preparing to Breastfeed – Under the guidance of an experienced, internationally board certified Lactation Consultant, the class will help answer common questions and concerns many new families experience during pregnancy.
     
  • Twinformation – For parents expecting multiple births, this class covers fetal development, types of twins, special needs of twin pregnancy, vaginal/Cesarean section delivery, breastfeeding twins, bonding with two infants, and more.
     
  • Baby Talk – Discussion concerns decisions to be made prior to the baby’s birth, such as breastfeeding vs. bottle feeding, male circumcision, and selecting a pediatrician.
     
  • Sibling – A presentation offered to pre-school and young school age children to introduce them to the exciting role of being a big brother or sister and to help them feel involved.
     
  • Infant/Child CPR – This non-certified course is designed for parents of infants/children, day care personnel, educators and those interested in basic life-saving skills.

Women and Stroke

This seminar focuses on the recognition of signs and symptoms of stroke and how to proceed to improve chances of minimal disabilities.
