Cardiology

The Catholic Health System has long been a leader in providing high quality, compassionate cardiac care to the residents of Erie County. Annually, CHS hospitals treat more than 7,000 patients for cardiac illness. Our extensive cardiac services include:

The Heart Center (located at Mercy Hospital)

CHS is proud to provide The Heart Center, located at Mercy Hospital, an expanded cardiovascular services program to be able to treat these patients. The Heart Center offers:

  • Open heart surgery
  • Coronary balloon angioplasty
  • Coronary artery stent placement
  • Electrophysiology services for irregular heart rhythyms
  • Cardiac implants

The Heart Center is the only place in Western New York that performs percutaneous closure for PFO in patients with stroke. Mercy Hospital is the only hospital in Western New York with a comprehensive program for the use of ventricular assist devices (VAD).

Cardiac Rehabilitation

The Catholic Health System Cardiac Rehabilitation program is a three-phase approach designed to meet the needs of individuals recovering from:

  • Heart attack
  • Bypass surgery
  • Heart transplant
  • Angioplasty/atherectomy
  • Valve repair or replacement
  • Cardiomyopathy
  • Congestive heart failure
  • Other forms of heart disease
