Kenmore Mercy Hospital has been recognized as the best rated hospital in the Buffalo area and among the top ten percent of hospitals in the nation for joint replacement for the third year in a row (2007 - 2009) by HealthGrades, the leading independent healthcare ratings company. In addition, Kenmore Mercy Hospital received several other HealthGrades accolades:
- Recipient of the HealthGrades Joint Replacement Excellence Award™ - 3 years in a row (2007 - 2009)
- Five-Star Rated for Joint Replacement - 3 years in a row (2007 - 2009)

In developing its 2009 healthcare quality ratings, HealthGrades analyzed more than 41 million Medicare patient records from 2005 to 2007 at approximately 5,000 non-federal hospitals across the county. Risk-adjusted mortality and complication rates were calculated and hospitals were assigned a 1-star (poor), 3-star (as expected), or 5-star (best) quality rating for 28 diagnoses and procedures from heart failure to hip replacement to pneumonia.
American Cancer Society - 2007 Recognition Award - Smoke-Free Campus
For it's effors in becoming a smoke-free campus on January 1, 2008, Kenmore Mercy Hospital was presented with a 2007 Recognition Award from the American Cancer Society.
Designated Stroke Center by New York State Department of Health - (2006)
Stroke Center Designation assures patients that Kenmore Mercy Hospital meets the State’s stringent guidelines for stroke care. This includes being seen by a physician within 15 minutes of arrival in the ER; receiving a CT scan within 25 minutes; interpretation of CT results in 45 minutes; lab results in 45 minutes; and clot busting drugs within 60 minutes of arrival or 3 hours of symptom onset and catheter-based techniques than enable treatment up to 8 hours from symptom onset.
Intersocietal Commission on the Accreditation of Echocardiography Laboratories (ICAEL) - Three Year Accreditation (2006)
The purpose of the ICAEL is "to ensure high quality patient care and to promote health care by providing a mechanism to encourage and recognize the provision of quality echocardiographic diagnostic evaluations by a process of voluntary accreditation." Through the accreditation process, laboratories assess every aspect of daily operation and its impact on the quality of health care provided to patients. Because accreditation is renewed every three years, a long-term commitment to quality and self-assessment is developed and maintained.
Thompson 100 Top Hospitals - Performance Improvement Leader (2004)
For 2004, Kenmore Mercy Hospital was named as one of the top 100 Hospitals - Performance Improvement Leaders in the Country by Thomson, a leading provider of strategic business and clinical information for the healthcare industry. Kenmore Mercy and its senior management team were recognized for consistently improving overall performance at a substantially faster rate than other U.S. hospitals. The study looked at several key areas over a five-year period from 1999-2003, including quality, operational efficiency, financial performance, and growth.
HCIA, Inc. - 100 Top Hospitals - Orthopedic Benchmarks for Success (1999)
Kenmore Mercy Hospital was named as one of the top 100 Orthopedic Hospitals in the country following the release of an independent study – 100 Top Hospitals: Orthopedic Benchmarks for Success. The study, conducted by HCIA (Health Care Industires Association) and The Health Network, identified the 100 overall best-performing hospitals for orthopedic services including knee replacements, hip replacements, and fracture repair.
Certification of Nuclear Medicine - ICANL (Application Pending)
The purpose of the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Nuclear Medicine Laboratories is "to ensure high quality patient care and to promote health care by providing a mechanism to encourage and recognize the provision of quality nuclear cardiology and nuclear medicine diagnostic evaluations by a process of voluntary accreditation." Through the accreditation process, laboratories assess every aspect of daily operation and its impact on the quality of health care provided to patients.
