Home » Facilities » Continuing Care Division » Medical Rehabilitation Unit Medical Rehabilitation UnitThe mission of the Partners In Rehab Medical Rehabilitation Unit (MRU) at Mercy Hospital and Kenmore Mercy Hospital is to improve the health, functioning, and quality of life of patients transitioning from an acute care facility. With the MRU located within an acute care facility, the patients benefit from the proximity to medical services should the need arise. The 20-bed unit at each facility promotes the independence of individuals through the compassionate delivery of the highest quality medical care. Each patient's rehabilitation program is developed by our medical team led by our board-certified physiatrist in conjunction with the patient and family and incorporates the patient's personal treatment goals.

The rehabilitation team creates innovative treatments to help patients now and in the future. We are committed to providing our patients with the most up-to-date care and information. Partners In Rehab participates in the FIM® System of tracking rehabilitative care and patient progress. The FIM™ instrument allows the MRU staff to determine individual motor and cognitive capabilities and develop effective, personalized rehabilitation care plans. The data is compared with regional and national facilities to ensure high quality medical standards are maintained. The FIM™ rating is comprised of six subsections:
Each MRU offers an interdisciplinary team approach to medical rehabilitation in settings that are convenient, comfortable, and equipped with the latest in medical rehabilitation technology. Team members combine their individual areas of expertise to create the best possible treatment program for the patient. Each patient in the MRU will receive an individualized treatment plan that includes a full range of services including 24-hour nursing care and rehabilitation services. To best serve our patients, individual case management maximizes the medical, social and financial resources available to each patient. A social worker coordinates communciation among the team members, the patient, and the family to facilitate discharge. Team conferences are held weekly to review the treatment plan and evaluate the patient's progress. The team members provide the patient and family with recommendations and instructions for continued care. Referrals for continued rehabilitation services are initiated to meet the patient's ongoing needs. |
