Dear Colleagues: As you begin the process of internship selection, we would like to recommend Sisters Hospital in Buffalo, New York. Sisters is a 413-bed teaching hospital on the north side of Buffalo, and is affiliated with the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine Medical Education Consortium and the Graduate Medical Education Consortium of the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine. We are one of nine consortium hospitals in the Buffalo system. In addition to the AOA approved rotating internship, Sisters offers an AOA Family Practice Residency Program and allopathic residencies in OB/GYN and Internal Medicine. In addition, affiliation with the SUNY Buffalo Consortium provides a wide variety of electives. Sisters is committed to teaching residents, interns and students. The attending display a high professionalism and enthusiasm with regard to teaching. This should be a prime factor in your internship selection. There are daily teaching rounds and conferences, in addition to regular Thursday afternoon lecture, and mentor and education program sponsored by the osteopathic training programs. Night call averages every third or fifth night for Internal Medicine and Pediatric rotations. Sample schedules for the program are available here. Sisters places an emphasis on teaching versus service, which is often not true of large teaching institutions. We think a visit to Sisters or a clinical student rotation at Sisters will favorably impress you with our program. If we can answer any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. Sincerely, David J. Martinke, D.O. |
