As a resident, your OB/GYN education is further enriched by the experience of working at Sisters of Charity Hospital, part of Catholic Health. With clinical programs providing primary, secondary and tertiary care to patients and outpatients throughout the region.

As a major teaching Affiliate of the State University of New York at Buffalo, which has a resident pool of over 600 residents, Sisters Hospital is fully in the mainstream of graduate medical education. Sisters Hospital has been committed to graduate medical education in OB/GYN in the Buffalo area since 1942.

Founded in 1848, Sisters Hospital is the oldest hospital in continuous operation in upstate New York. It is a fully accredited, non-profit general hospital dedicated to excellence in medical care and education. Sisters has built on its strengths and role as a healthcare leader to provide a full spectrum of services including prevention, wellness, primary care, specialty care, acute care, home care and long-term care.

Located in Buffalo, about four miles from the city's thriving downtown area and about three miles from the University at Buffalo medical school, Sisters Hospital has over 430 beds, a modern emergency and outpatient department, and skilled nursing facility.

The hospital has made a strong commitment to women's healthcare with a number of innovative programs and services related to obstetrics and gynecology. These include:

  • Expressly for Women, which provides a comprehensive resource and referral center offering a full range of services for women of all ages.
  • Sisters Specialty Center for Women, which offers specialized care from a team of professionals from natural family planning to post-reproductive gynecology.
  • Sisters Hospital Special BirthPlace provides superb maternity care for mother and child. In addition, Sisters offers quality prenatal care and assistance to those without insurance coverage.
  • Sisters Hospital has established Safe Passage, the area's first hospital-based program to help women and children affected by domestic violence.

In addition to its renowned obstetrics and gynecology department, the hospital has a full complement of departments characteristic of a general hospital including surgery, radiology, pathology, pediatrics, emergency medicine and ambulatory services.
