HEALTHeLINK is a 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit organization and was established through funding from:

  • Catholic Health
  • Erie County Medical Center Corporation

Clinical Standardization Initiatives

The practice of modern medicine has become increasingly complex due to the explosion of biomedical knowledge, the rapid growth of pharmaceuticals, and advanced medical technology. This complexity increases time constraints on providers and adds pressure to contain healthcare costs. Complexity, coupled with the design of the delivery system, results in a healthcare system that struggles with medical errors, practice variation, and suboptimal care.

The opportunity that exists for Catholic Health and other healthcare systems to address these issues rests on our ability to improve processes, establish appropriate safeguards, and leverage new technology.

The movement towards evidence-based healthcare has been gaining ground quickly over the past few years, motivated by clinicians, politicians, and management concerned about quality, safety, consistency, and costs. Clinical standards, based on medical evidence best practice, have been shown to be capable of supporting improvements in quality, consistency, and patient safety.

The following Clinical Practices have been reviewed and approved by all appropriate Catholic Health Medical Governing Bodies and are now the expected clinical standard at Catholic Health (click to download):
