Nominate an Associate for the LOVE Award

Four times each year, Catholic Health awards the LOVE Award to staff members who demonstrate a personal commitment to our values in their daily work.

Anyone can nominate an associate for the LOVE award – patients, visitors, family members, physicians, volunteers and co-workers.

Meet our most recent award-winners at Mercy Nursing Facility:

James "Sully" SullivanJames "Sully" Sullivan

2012 – First Quarter Winner

Maintenance Technician James "Sully" Sullivan was nominated for the LOVE Award by by the Resident Council and by a resident's family.

In their nomination, the family member stated:

"Sully goes 'above and beyond' the call of duty to make resident's rooms truly their home! For example, he learned that my mother loved listening to her satellite radio, but she had difficulty in getting reception in her room. He tried all sorts of things with an antenna to try to get a signal. He continued to go out of his way to try things and ultimately ran an antenna from the other side of the building to her room so she would be able to listen to the music she loves. Sully also gave her several CDs he made of her favorite 40s music and checks in on her now and then to be sure her radio is still working or to see if there is anything else she needs."

We are fortunate to have Sully on our team helping residents, families and associates in any way he can.

Kathleen DysonKathleen Dyson

2011 – Fourth Quarter Winner

Nurse Manager Kathleen Dyson was nominated for the LOVE Award by a co-worker, who said:

"Kathy is a compassionate, knowledgeable, and thorough nurse. She provides exceptional care to the residents here at Mercy Nursing Facility at OLV. She is very aware of each individual resident in this facility – even those not on her units – and she makes sure that all of their medical and psychosocial needs are met. Kathy advocates for each resident and they know they are in good hands with Kathy overseeing their care. Kathy treats everyone with whom she works well, in spite of anything that she may be enduring in her own life or what kind of day she is having. We are lucky to have Kathy here at OLV as a nurse manager."

Susan HughesSusan Hughes

2011 – Third Quarter Winner

Susan Hughes is a Diet Technician who has worked at Mercy Nursing Facility for three years. Sue was nominated by two co-workers.

One co-worker said, "Sue gives each resident individual attention regarding their meals. She is very alert to their weight gain and loss and looks to find ways to keep each resident's weight stable. She spends considerable time with each person and assists those who need help. She is kind, considerate and compassionate."

A second co-worker noted: "Sue is always kind and compassionate, is at the households talking to the residents, checking how much they are eating, and following up with their likes and dislikes. She will assist residents as she is able, and if she is unable to assist them, she will alert staff of residents needs. She is always so sweet and caring and is a breath of fresh air and a ray of sunshine in our residents' lives. She always has a smile on her face and is customer oriented to both internal and external customers. She is a very good role model."

Cheryl KropczynskiCheryl Kropczynski

2011 – Second Quarter Winner

Cheryl Kropczynski, Licensed Practical Nurse Team Leader on the evening shift, has worked at Mercy Nursing Facility for 20 years. She was nominated by the family of a former resident who stated:

"Catholic Health is very blessed to have Cheryl, and our family has been blessed to have had her care for our mom for the past few years. The care and concern she has continually shown to my mom and to our family goes above and beyond her job description. We knew that when we were not there, she was in the best hands possible with Cheryl, and we are forever grateful for her."

Another family recently stated: "We credit Cheryl with saving our mother's life many years ago. When she was first admitted, Cheryl recognized that she was overmedicated at home and worked with the doctor to have her medications adjusted. This gave us many, many more good years with our mother."

Theresa McConnellTheresa McConnell

2011 – First Quarter Winner

Theresa McConnell, the Unit Secretary at Mercy Nursing Facility, was nominated for the LOVE Award by a co-worker, who said:

"In addition to fulfilling her day-to-day responsibilities with skill and efficiency and a smile, Terrie goes out of her way to help others."

"Terrie has spearheaded the Food Bank collection drives for the facility and organized staff events for team building. Whenever another associate is out with an extended illness, Terrie is the one to organize sending a card or a 'busy basket' of puzzle books, movies, magazines, etc. to help the person pass the time. She always asks 'Is there anything else you need? I have the time' of not only our residents, but fellow staff and visitors as well. Terrie is very humble and modest and always downplays any praise, but there is no one more deserving!"
