The staff members below have been awarded the LOVE Award, a quarterly designation that recognizes Catholic Health associates who demonstrate a personal commitment to our values in their daily work.

Anyone can nominate an associate for the LOVE award – patients, visitors, family members, physicians, volunteers and co-workers.

Meet our most recent award-winners below:

Sheila Ruszczyk

2011 – Third Quarter

LPN Shelia Ruszczyk was nominated for the LOVE Award by a co-worker, who was touched by her generosity. She said:

"I shared with Shelia that I was upset because of my husband's health. I was concerned that he may need surgery, and I would not have funds to travel to San Diego. She listened to me compassionately. The next day, she came in with airline vouchers. She paid for the flights fully, even though I know she could use the funds for her own family. She reached into her own pocket without blinking an eye."

The co-worker said that Shelia is a devoted employee with a huge heart and listens to everyone's concerns. She commented on Shelia's willingness to help her co-workers and the respect that she shows to everyone she meets.

"She is a joy to be around and uses humor to make the environment positive; the place just would not be the same without her."

Larry Hill

2011 – Third Quarter

Maintenance Mechanic Larry Hill was nominated for the LOVE Award by a co-worker, who noted that as the organization had experienced tremendous growth, including the opening of the Mercy Comprehensive Care Center, Larry consistently rose to the occasion.

His co-worker said, "From the time he enters our facility, his smile is warm and his attitude is positive. When what needs to be done seems longer than the day, Larry takes on the tasks and work diligently to complete them. The staff has grown to know Larry and the confidence they feel in him is often voiced. There is never a job that he would decline; if it needs to be done he will do it."
