The patient said, "She was in my room within a minute if I needed help getting out of bed to use the lavartory, and she made sure that I was covered when getting out of bed when there were visitors. She gave me medication when I was in pain, taught me how to use the breathing aspirator, made me a spritzer so that I would stay hydrated and brought my egg-crate bed padding to my new room after I was moved out of Labor & Delivery."

"Diane stands out and is one of the top nurses at Sisters Hospital."

Olivia is very compassionate with our patients and is especially sensitive with patients who have difficulty understanding procedures due to limited english proficiency. She continually demonstrates the mission and values of Catholic Health each day in all her interactions."

Dianne GordonDianne Gordon

2011 – Second Quarter Winner

Dianne Gordon, a nurse at the M. Steven Piver, M.D. Center for Women’s Health & Wellness, was nominated for LOVE Award by a patient, who said that Dianne was responsive and easy to confide in. The nomination stated:

"I had some disturbing genetic test results which required me to quickly get a breast MRI. Dianne got right to it and had this approved and scheduled within days, and her communication was excellent. Then I had to bring my sister in for consult. Again, Dianne was professional and created an atmosphere where both my sister and I were able to articulate our fears, and she smoothed the way prior to the consult with Dr. Piver."

When the patient developed another medical condition, she said that Dianne returned her call faster than she would have expected and took her concerns to the doctor. She set up her appointment with a physician who could diagnose and treat her condition.

"By the time I was in the office, I was tired and emotional. Dianne seemed to pick up on this and was so gentle and reassuring. She listened to me. I felt that she genuinely cared about my problem. Of course I came to see the physician, but Dianne is the catalyst here that calms fears before the doctor even gets in the room."

Cliff NelsonCliff Nelson

2011 – First Quarter Winner

Cliff Nelson, a groundskeeper at Sisters of Charity Hospital, was nominated for the LOVE Award by a physician, who said:

"I am here every day of the year to make the rounds, and I have watched Mr. Nelson work tirelessly in the cold, in the snow, in the rain, doing his job almost to perfection. I once congratulated him on so working hard and doing such a good job, and he responded, 'It's a team effort.' Today, I came in at 6:30 a.m., and in the pitch dark, he was already cleaning the grounds in front of St. Catherine's."

In his nomination, the physician remarked that an associate to whom he had spoken said that Cliff is "one of our unsung heroes."
