Emergency Department Construction Project

Mercy Hospital's $32 million emergency department is the biggest emergency department in the area. The new ER features 32 private treatment rooms, including three airborne isolation rooms and two resuscitation rooms.

Patients and visitors arriving at the new emergency center will be greeted by a spacious and open reception area that looks and feels more like a hotel lobby than a healthcare facility.

Spotlight on Health (July 2009)

Dr. Sal Calandra, Director of Interventional Cardiology at Mercy Hospital, and Julie LaManna, Senior Director of Cardiac Services at Catholic Health, were the featured guests on 96.1 WJYE-FM Radio’s Spotlight on Health show that aired on Sunday, July 26 at 7 am. Dr. Calandra and Julie discussed Catholic Health Cardiac Care Services and the latest developments at the Heart Center at Mercy Hospital.

Thomas McNulty, President of Success Stories, Inc. and a member of the Mercy Hospital Foundation Board, is the host of the show.

Minimally Invasive Gynecological Surgery

In August 2010, Dr. Scott Zuccala of Mercy Hospital's Obstetrics and Gynecology Department and Dr. Ali Ghomi of the Piver Center at Sisters Hospital were guests on WJYE-FM's Spotlight on Health program. They were the first surgeons in the Buffalo area to perform robotic-assisted, minimally invasive gynecological surgery for non-cancerous conditions using the state-of-the-art da Vinci® Robotic Surgical System.
