Mercy Hospital Services

Ambulatory Surgery

A surgical procedure may be one that meets the criteria for ambulatory surgery. Ambulatory surgery patients are admitted directly to the Ambulatory Surgery Unit and are usually released the same day. If an overnight stay is required, you will be transferred to a nursing unit to receive extended care as directed by your physician.

Cardiology

Catholic Health provides comprehensive cardiac care at Mercy Hospital, including open open heart surgery, diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterization, electrophysiology, and a full spectrum of diagnostic testing.

Childbirth Classes

The childbirth classes offered at Mercy Hospital of Buffalo provide the knowledge you need to make this time in your life as easy, happy and memorable as possible. Prepared childbirth classes cover relaxing and breathing techniques, nutrition, newborn care and more.

Well-Appointed Patient Rooms

Our birthing rooms – equipped for labor, delivery and recovery – provide for the health and comfort of our patients. Several offer a Jacuzzi whirlpool tub, giving mom a higher level of relaxation before delivery.

At Mercy Hospital, patient rooms feature exclusive amenities such as a private shower and bath. A sleeper sofa enables loved ones to visit in comfort while they offer their support and encouragement during this memorable occasion.

Celebration Suites

The Celebration suites, available at an additional charge, offer patients and their families all the comfort and amenities of upscale "hotel-like" accommodations to celebrate the arrival of their newborn. These rooms include:

  • Flat screen TVs
  • Private closets
  • Showers and baths
  • Dining areas complete with a refrigerator and hot beverage dispenser
  • Double sleeper sofas for loved ones

Advanced Capabilities

The Family BirthPlace is a Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit equipped with state-of-the-art technology to provide exceptional care for your baby. The hospital also maintains a specialized perinatal testing unit and the latest in security technology.

Dedicated Nursing Care

Two nurses' stations are located near patient rooms, placing your healthcare team closer to you and your baby.

A registered nurse dedicated to caring for you and your baby will help your new family embark on what will be a memorable life-long journey. Because this nurse coordinates your care as well as your baby’s, she can explain infant care techniques and point out different aspects of infant behavior right from the start. More importantly, she is there to address your healthcare needs, alleviate your concerns, and offer valuable encouragement and support.

Tours of the Family BirthPlace should be arranged several weeks in advance of your due date. Call HealthConnection at (716) 447-6205 to schedule your tour.

Palliative Care

Mercy Hospital offers a specially designed Palliative Care Unit featuring four private rooms, a semi-private room and a spacious family room. Each room features a warm, home-like atmosphere with comfortable furnishings and amenities. Working in partnership with the professionals of Hospice Buffalo, Inc., the unit's staff are specially trained to help patients and their families who are facing the end of life’s journey.

The unit was recently remodeled and expanded in 2008 through the support of the Mercy Hospital Foundation, the Hospice Foundation, and generous donors.

Pediatric Care Unit

Our Pediatric Care Unit is located on the fourth floor adjacent to the Family BirthPlace. A brighter unit is the result of recent refurbishing.  The 10-bed pediatric unit provides short stay and overnight care for common medical and surgical problems in children of all ages.

Prostate Cancer Treatment: daVinci® Robotic Surgery

The da Vinci ® Surgical System enhances surgical capabilities by enabling the performance of complex surgeries through tiny surgical openings. The System cannot be programmed nor can it make decisions on its own. The da Vinci ® System requires that every surgical maneuver be performed with direct input from your surgeon.

The da Vinci® Surgical System has been successfully used in thousands of prostate cancer procedures world-wide. Download a brochure on the daVinci® Surgical System.

For many patients approaching surgery, it is often difficult to visualize what is entailed in a specific surgical procedure. To give patients a better understanding of the advances made by robotically-assisted minimally invasive surgery, we present the following video presentation. This video offers a three-dimensional simulation of the male reproductive anatomy, the enabling technology –the da Vinci ® Surgical System – and the procedure itself.
