Mercy Hospital's $32 million emergency center is the biggest emergency department in the area. The new ER features 32 private treatment rooms, including three airborne isolation rooms and two resuscitation rooms.

Patients and visitors arriving at the new emergency center will be greeted by a spacious and open reception area that looks and feels more like a hotel lobby than a healthcare facility.

At the emergency center, patients can expect:

  • Free valet parking for ambulatory patients
  • A child-friendly area in the waiting room
  • A serene and peaceful meditation garden just outside the reception area
  • Private treatment rooms with natural light and a 26" flat screen TV

Fast Test Results

A radiology suite with 24/7 digital imaging and a high resolution 64-slice CT scanner. To expedite patient lab results, a pneumatic tube will quickly send samples up to the hospital’s 7th floor laboratory without the need for them to be delivered by hand.

On New Year's Eve, I was a patient in the ER.

The nurse who was assigned to me was Katie, and she was the sweetest, most knowledgeable, and most efficient nurse I have ever encountered. Don't ever let her leave your facility!

When You Arrive

Patients in the ER are seen based on the seriousness of their illness, not the time of arrival.

Triage

When you arrive in the ER for care, either by ambulance or private transportation, your treatment begins when you first speak to a triage nurse about your condition. The triage nurse will take some preliminary information, including the reason for your visit, a brief medical history, and a list of any medications you are taking. He or she will also take your temperature, heart rate, and blood pressure and assign you to a section of the ER most appropriate to handle your condition.

Registration

Following triage, a registration clerk will record some basic medical and insurance information. If you are a former patient, some of this data may already be in the computer system. However, you may be asked to verify its accuracy. If you are too ill, a family member or friend may do this for you. The clerk will ask you or a family member to sign a consent form giving our medical team permission to treat you.

I came to your Emergency Room from my doctor's office for a possible appendicitis.

I was very pleased with the prompt and personal care I received. Drew Peterson, PA and Tracey, RN took a great deal of time with me to keep me up-to-date and informed about my condition.

Drew and Tracey, thank you for your dedication to your professions. It is special individuals like the two of you who make emergencies easier to handle.

I'm recovering well from my appendectomy and am looking forward to returning to work.

Thanks again.

– Karen

Visitors

Only two (2) visitors will be allowed per patient at one time due to space limitations and to protect patient privacy.

Visitors must be at least 14 years old. Please make sure younger children are properly supervised in the waiting room.

Cell Phones

Cell phone usage is prohibited in patient care areas. There are designated areas for cell phone use. A public pay phone is available for visitor use in the waiting room.

To the dream team of doctors and nurses who took great care of me: you all saved my life.

Without you, I would not be here today. Mercy Hospital is a very good hospital with caring staff. The greatest hospital ever. Me and my family thank you.
