Work Hours

The residency program adheres to the New York State 405 regulations. These regulations mandate:

  • a maximum of 80 hours of clinical duties per week
  • no more than 24 hours on-call in a row
  • a 24 hour period off per week

Night Float

The program utilizes a night float system. Residents on night float work Sunday through Thursday nights from 5 p.m. until 7 a.m. the next morning or 5 p.m. until 7 a.m. Monday through Friday. The day residents never have to cover weekday night call and only have to take call on the weekends.

Clinical Experience

Sisters of Charity Hospital has an excellent reputation for obstetric and gynecologic care throughout Western New York . With the addition of a world-renowned gynecologic oncologist, Dr. M. Steven Piver, to our full time faculty, we are now seeing even more oncology patients than ever before. Given the small number of residents in our program, residents receive ample experience in both obstetrics and gynecology.
