I was very fortunate to have matched into such a first-class program.
This program strikes a nice balance between service and education. The partnership with the Catholic Health System has allowed for fantastic educational opportunities that are second to none. The program is extremely well run, the faculty is very knowledgeable and my fellow residents are fun to be around inside and outside of the hospital. Buffalo is an exciting city that offers a lot of great dining, activities, sports and night life; because of this, my wife and I call Buffalo our home and plan to stay in the area after residency. No doubt, because of my experience here, I feel comfortable and confident for the challenges ahead.
– Matt Rusk, 2013 Graduate
I greatly enjoyed my time as a medical resident at Sisters Hospital since it provided an excellent opportunity for patient care, learning and teaching in a very welcoming setting.
The teaching faculty was superb and fostered clinical excellence.

Chief, Solid Tumor Immunotherapy Section, National Cancer Institute, National Institutes of Health
My idea of an ideal residency program was somewhat like this one.
Friendly atmosphere, accountability, support from the program, no scutwork, adequate number of electives (even in first year), etc. The idea of doing electives in university hospitals makes it at par with any university program.
Another important thing that we have is the quarterly meeting. This keeps residents synchronized and makes residents work harder to come up to the expectations of program. I also liked the concept of a town hall meeting, which is specific to our program. It makes our program more lively, gives us a sense of direction, helps in solving issues and creates a more friendly environment among residents.
A well-organized call schedule gives us enough rest and personal time.
What I like about my program is the care for the residents, illustrated by resident retreats, Research Day, graduation parties, picnics, ACP conferences, encouragement to go to the conferences of choice, board review courses etc.

The Internal Medicine Residency Program at Catholic Health in Buffalo excels above all other programs.

As a recent graduate, I feel confident that I have been prepared to provide exceptional care to my patients.

Being a native of Buffalo, the Catholic Health Internal Medicine Training Program was a natural fit.
Buffalo is a wonderful city with an abundance of culture, entertainment and good neighbors. As residents, we have unlimited access to a range of specialists in a warm, friendly environment that is conducive to medical education and outstanding patient care.
Also, being affiliated with the University at Buffalo Medical Consortium provides us with access to a system with excellent physicians and fellowship opportunities.
Overall, the Catholic Health program is a superior program that provides its residents with a strong medical foundation. It has been and will continue to make a valuable contribution to the medical landscape of our country.

I chose to come to Catholic Health because I was impressed by both the academic strength of the program and also the feeling of community among the residents.
Since it's a smaller program, we all get to know each other and we get along really well. We get a lot of personalized attention here too.
I've been very happy with my decision to come to this program.

I was born and raised in Buffalo, NY. With exception of medical school, I have spent the majority of my life in this great city.
I graduated from SUNY at Buffalo with a B.S. in Pharmacology in 2005. Subsequently, I traveled to Pennsylvania to attend medical school at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM), where I received my medical degree (DO). I was lucky enough to have become part of the Internal Medicine Training Program at Sisters of Charity Hospital (SOCH) after graduating.
I cannot say enough about the amount of dedication to excellence that the house staff, educators and ancillary staff have demonstrated. It is very clear to me that the program has set our best interest as a priority. I truly feel that I am part of a family and not just another resident.
I am looking forward to the spending the remainder of my post-graduate education at Sisters Hospital. After graduation, I anticipate practicing as a hospitalist. I hope that one day I will be able to become part of the house staff which makes this institution so wonderful.
– Matthew J. Missert
I undoubtedly have had a great time in this program.
The atmosphere is friendly, calls are well balanced and this is a resident-first program.
My co-residents are very friendly, and I learned a lot from them. I will miss this program.

The program has touched new heights and achieved par excellence.
The quality of the program is demonstrated by its performance in different areas like board results (100%), selection for fellowships, poster/research presentation in annual meetings and awards across the country.
Members of faculty allows resident to grow, mature and achieve that competitive edge which is quintessential in the dynamic field of medicine. The program is very cosmopolitan and embraces residents from different parts of the world, which helps a person to better understand varying cultures, their values, customs and traditions.
The city of Buffalo, known for its history, has lots to offer, ranging from one of the best schools in the country, one of the safest places in the country (Amherst) to raise family, an array of recreational places and four typical seasons. To the north are the world-famous Niagara Falls and metropolitan Toronto city and to south are situated sprawling mountains famous for snow skiing.

Buffalo is America’s biggest small town.
Its most outstanding quality is its immense passion for all things Buffalonian – the friendly folk and various ethnic communities; the spicy, juicy chicken wings; the passionately loved but incorrigible Buffalo Bills; the slick Buffalo Sabres; and the wondrous Niagara Falls. The summers are beautiful for the nature lover and a white Christmas is a forerunner to exhilarating skiing and other winter sports.
Set within this backdrop is Catholic Health and its Internal Medicine Residency Training program (IMTP).
I love the program for its people: the entire teaching faculty, my fellow senior and junior residents and the nursing staff. Everyone is friendly, approachable, ever helpful, and always close. The multiethnic, multicultural fabric of the program is woven with feelings of warmth, and the education within it flows intensely.
This program is an excellent launching pad for all those who hope to achieve success in their medical careers and to become worthy contributors to their communities in the coming future. I’m proud and extremely pleased to be a part of this unique experience.

I believe what sets our program apart from others is its excellent support system.
I had no problem adjusting to the routine, thanks to the outstanding faculty, welcoming staff and fellow residents. I can never thank all of you enough for what you have done for me.
The internal medicine program is not just about learning and practice, it’s about living like a family, working like a family and setting even higher standards for patient care.
