Health Sciences Charter School

The Health Science Charter School opened its 2011-2012 school year at a new location at 1140 Ellicott St, Buffalo, New York. The school is open year-round and serves students from 8 school districts in Western New York.

In addition to meeting graduation requirements required by the New York State Department of Education, each student earns at least 20 transcript college credits, 100 hours of service learning, and no less that 100 hours of career exploration and internships. A unique component of the HSCS is a four week summer session that allows students to achieve these goals.

Currently there are 216 students consisting of 121 freshman and 95 sophomores. Grades 11 and 12 will be added incrementally through 2013.

Students come from 19 different school districts and prepare for a variety of healthcare careers that include:

  • Physicians
  • Nursing
  • Medical Technicians
  • Pharmacist
  • Health Information Technology Specialists

Experience in the Field

Real-work internships, mentoring and service learning placements at healthcare facilities help students to learn about the new jobs within their reach after graduation.

Following graduation, students are prepared to enroll at a college or unversity or to enter the workforce.

Cost and Transportation

Tuition is free.

Each student will receive a bus pass from the Niagara Frontier Transit Authority (NFTA). It will be their responsibility to get themselves to and from school.
