The Cancer Registrar maintains components of the Cancer Registry and the computerized data collection system for cancer cases consistent with medical, administrative, ethical, legal, and accreditation requirements, paying special attention to compliance with the American College of Surgeons’ requirements for an approved program. He/she abstracts and codes clinical data using the ELEKTA IMPAC METRIQ software, obtains long-term follow-up data, and analyzes health records according to standards. He/she processes, maintains, compiles and reports this health information data. While working at non-CoC-approved facilities, the Cancer Registrar abstracts all cancer cases deemed reportable to the New York State Cancer Registry in accordance with the Cancer Research Improvement Act of 1997, using the Abstract Plus software.

Primary responsibility is to perform tests on body fluids to provide information for the diagnosis and treatment of patients. Proper handling of specimens, which will be analyzed at a later time, is imperative. The ability to organize work to insure that priority testing is efficiently performed is required. Clinical Laboratory Technologists may also perform duties of Charge Technologists when called upon provided they have six (6) years experience as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist.
Codes primarily acute hospital inpatient, SNF, Rehab, for the purpose of accurate reimbursement, research and compliance with federal regulations. Coding of Ambulatory, ER / Urgent Care, Interventional Radiology and same day surgery records is performed on an as needed basis. Diagnoses and procedures are coded through review of the entire medical record, utilizing International Classification of Diseases, 9th Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-9-CM) and Current Procedure Terminology (CPT) classifications. Queries physician for further clarification when there is uncertainty in the documentation of the medical record. Analyzes and reviews records for completeness. Actively participates as a member of the Clinical Documentation Improvement Team (CDI Team) as outlined in this document.
The Licensed Practical Nurse Team Leader administers nursing care to designated residents under the direction of a registered nurse. Coordinates and supports the activities of the certified nurse assistants and actively participates in the direct care of the resident, by following the specific approaches as stated in the plan of care.

The nurse implements the interventions identified in the plan of care and evaluates the patient's progress toward outcomes. The Maternal Child nurse has the ability to make contributions toward making the birthing experience positive and memorable for the woman and her significant other.
The Registered Professional Maternity Nurse accepts responsibility for the delivery of patient care through the process of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation as appropriate to the ages of the patients served based on the areas of clinical practice.
