Kenmore Mercy Hospital has earned the Gold Seal of Approval® from The Joint Commission in both hip and knee joint replacements in 2013, making it one of only 12 hospitals in New York State to earn this dual distinction (Kenmore Mercy Hospital Awards). The Catholic Health hospital remains the first and only hospital in Western New York to merit this achievement since 2011.
Certification by The Joint Commission demonstrates compliance with national standards for healthcare quality and safety. To earn this distinction, Kenmore Mercy’s Total Joint Replacement Program underwent a voluntary onsite evaluation by a Joint Commission reviewer.
The program was evaluated for compliance with The Joint Commission’s stringent standards of care, which include delivery of clinical care, performance and information management and adherence to quality of care protocols. The assessment also included interviews with staff members across many departments and patients.
“By seeking Joint Commission certification in hip and knee replacement, we are making a significant investment in quality on a day-to-day basis from the top down,” said Laura Verbanic, director of Quality & Patient Safety.
