For the third consecutive year, Mercy Hospital of Buffalo has been named one of Western New York’s Healthiest Employers by Buffalo’s Business First newspaper at an awards ceremony on May 16, 2013.

The annual recognition by Business First honors the “most outstanding health and wellness programs created and implemented by local companies.”

Mercy was recognized for the hard-working efforts of the hospital’s Associate Council Wellness Committee this past year.

Thanks to this group, new exercise programs, such as Zumba, have been made available for patients and employees at the  Associate Wellness Center on the hospital’s 8th floor.

Members of the Wellness Committee also continued the hospital’s “Smallest Winner Contest” that encourages healthy weight loss goals for employees and a bi-weekly Farmers' Market featuring farm-fresh local vegetables and fruit. The committee promotes team participation in several community walks, runs and biking events throughout the year.

New this year at Mercy, is the hospital’s cooking show titled “Cooking Well with Mercy.” In these free cooking demonstrations, held in the Mercy Café during lunchtime hours, Mercy Hospital’s Chef Christopher Damiani shares proper cooking techniques using fresh and healthy ingredients. The demos are open to all staff and hospital visitors.
