Mercy Nursing Facility and St. Vincent’s of Dunkirk Named Among Top 10 Percent in Country for Resident Satisfaction
November 20, 2013
Two Catholic Health Continuing Care Facilities received Excellence in Action Awards from My InnerView, a division of the National Research Corporation. For the second year in a row, Mercy Nursing Facility at OLV received the award for Skilled Nursing Care, while St. Vincent’s of Dunkirk received the award for the first time for Independent Living. The awards recognize long term care and senior living providers that achieve the highest levels of excellence by receiving overall resident satisfaction scores that fall within the top 10 percent in the country.
Mercy Nursing Facility is one of only three providers in New York State and the only facility in Western New York to receive this recognition. “The best way to know how we are doing in terms of quality and satisfaction is to ask the people who matter most – our residents and their families,” said Mark Sullivan, interim president & CEO of Catholic Health Continuing Care. “Survey tools like My InnerView help our administrators measure our success against the top performing senior care providers in the country as we strive to be among the best.”
Residents and their family members were invited to participate in the My InnerView survey, which measures such things as respectfulness and competency of staff, resident-to-staff friendships, variety of meals, respect for privacy and feeling of security.
“Results like this don’t happen by accident,” said Patricia Weeks O’Connor, administrator of Mercy Nursing Facility. “It takes a lot of hard work and dedication from everyone who works in our facilities. From the doctors, nurses, therapists and aides, who provide direct care, to the dietary, housekeeping and support staff, who provide a home-like atmosphere for our residents.”
An area leader in residential and senior care, Catholic Health offers skilled nursing, assisted living, subacute rehabilitation, and adult day care services. “We strive each day to provide area seniors with the type of care we would want for ourselves or our own families,” said Deborah Smith, administrator of St. Vincent’s. “This recognition is a strong indication that our residents and their families appreciate the care we provide and, equally important, that our associates enjoy their work and are committed to providing the very best care and service. They truly deserve all the credit for this special honor.”
