Sisters of Charity Hospital in Buffalo and its St. Joseph Campus in Cheektowaga kept a long-time holiday tradition alive as they once again made the Thanksgiving season brighter for families in need.

On Monday, November 25 at 12 noon, hospital associates gathered in the main lobby of the St. Joseph Campus at 2605 Harlem Road in Cheektowaga, where Father Louis Klein blessed nearly 90 food baskets overflowing with all the ingredients for a traditional Thanksgiving feast.

The hospital’s Mission Committee sponsors the event, which has been providing food baskets to area families for more than 15 years. With both hospital campuses participating, this special holiday giving project has grown to serve even more families. “Our Catholic Health Mission, to reveal the healing love of Jesus to those in need, is at the center of this outreach effort,” says Paula Moscato, vice president Mission Integration at Sisters Hospital and coordinator of the event.

Numerous hospital departments donate all the trimmings for a traditional thanksgiving meal and carefully assemble each basket, while Sisters Hospital Medical Staff contributes the turkeys. The baskets will be distributed to local parishes, church communities and other outreach centers, including Catholic Charities.

“Sisters of Charity Hospital and its St. Joseph Campus are known throughout the community for providing high quality medical care, but our associates do so much more,” Moscato added. “What better way to celebrate this season of gratitude than to give thanks for all our blessings and extend a hand to help those who are in need.”
