Sisters of Charity Hospital, St. Joseph Campus Hosts St. Joseph’s Day Table

March 8, 2012

Sisters Hospital Foundation, St. Joseph Campus is sponsoring a traditional St. Joseph’s Day Table for associates and visitors on Friday, March 16 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Father Lou Klein, hospital chaplain, will be blessing the bread and food, which is being catered by The Golden Parachute Restaurant. Mass cards will be placed on all meal trays for patients as well.

The event will take place in the St. Joseph Campus Community Room, 2605 Harlem Road, Cheektowaga, NY.

What is St. Joseph's Day?

St. Joseph the Carpenter was the husband of Mary and the earthly father of Jesus. St. Joseph’s Day is traditionally celebrated on March 19, the birthday of St. Joseph, to honor all fathers.

In the Catholic tradition, St. Joseph’s Day falls during the fasting season of Lent and includes a meatless meal of Italian favorites. People gather at homes, churches, and other locations to enjoy traditional Italian recipes including pastas, fish, sweets, breads and fava beans.

Many other countries join the festivities, and since “Joseph” is such a common name, most families have at least one Giuseppe, Jozefa, José, Pepe, Joe or Josephine to share in the celebration.
