Kenmore Mercy Hospital’s Imaging Department (Imaging Services) recently received an accreditation from the American College of Radiology for its newly installed Mammomat Inspiration digital mammography system.
The ACR gold seal of accreditation represents the highest level of image quality and patient safety. It is awarded only to facilities meeting ACR Practice Guidelines and Technical Standards after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. Image quality, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures, and quality assurance programs are assessed.
“We are very pleased with the results of the inspection,” said Lisa Zacher, chief technologist of radiology and lead mammographer. “This inspection reflects the high quality and professionalism of our mammography staff and services.”
Kenmore Mercy Hospital recently invested $300,000 to overhaul its former mammography suite and to purchase the new Mammomat Inspiration system that provides digital imaging, screening and diagnostic mammography.
According to the American Cancer Society, one in eight women is diagnosed with breast cancer each year in America. Screening mammography is encouraged for early detection of breast cancer and digital mammography offers significant benefits to women.
Kenmore Mercy Hospital offers flexible outpatient appointments for mammograms Monday-Friday. Monday evening appointments are also available. For more information, call (716) 447-6111.
