Mercy Hospital of Buffalo was recently named one of Western New York’s Healthiest Employers by Buffalo’s Business First newspaper at an awards ceremony on May 17, 2012.

The annual recognition by Business First honors the “most outstanding health and wellness programs created and implemented by local companies.”

Mercy was recognized for the hard-working efforts of the hospital’s Associate Council Wellness Committee. Thanks to this group, a new Associate Wellness Center and gym opened on the hospital’s 8th floor in 2011.

In other recent developments, members of the Wellness Committee organized the hospital’s “Smallest Winner Contest” and were successful in implementing healthier food choices in the Mercy Café.

“It’s especially important for us, as a healthcare leader, to lead by example,” said C.J. Urlaub, Mercy Hospital president & CEO. “I’m honored we were selected to be a finalist for this award, and I’m extremely grateful to all the members of the Associate Wellness Committee who made this possible.”
