Distinguishing itself as a leader in echocardiography services, Kenmore Mercy Hospital has received national re-accreditation from the Intersocietal Creditation Commission Echocardiography Laboratories (Echocardiography Services).
The three-year accreditation recognizes Kenmore Mercy’s “Echo Lab” for providing superior quality testing services. Echocardiography is a complex imaging technique that relies on the experi¬ence and training of both the cardiologist and the cardiac sonographer. The ICCEL accredits only the top performing Echo Labs throughout the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico.
“Cardiovascular Disease is the leading cause of death in the United States,” said Robert Glover M.D., Chief of Cardiology at Kenmore Mercy. “With more than 10 million echocardiography tests performed in the U.S. annually, the information provided by this non-invasive test is one of the most useful tools in diagnosing and treating many types of heart disease. This accreditation is a significant achievement for Kenmore Mercy and recognizes our commitment to quality testing for the diagnosis of heart disease.”
Echocardiography is a complex imaging technique that relies on the experience and training of both the cardiologist and the cardiac sonographer. Their interpretive and technical abilities determine the diagnostic accuracy of an echocardiograph examination. The ICCEL accredits only the top performing Echo labs throughout the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico.
To be considered for ICCEL accreditation, echocardiography laboratories must voluntarily submit to a rigorous examination that reviews all aspects of care and service delivery. As a leading provider of cardiac services in Western New York, Catholic Health is committed to seeking independent quality review of cardiology services.
“For our patients, this accreditation is their added assurance that the echocardiography testing we perform is of the highest quality,” said Terry Schmidt, RN, RDCS, FASE, Technical Director for Catholic Health Echo Labs “Our staff, including Dr. Robert Glover, Chief of Cardiology, JoAnn Koons, LPN, Cardiac Services Supervisor at Kenmore Mercy, our echocardiogram technicians and staff cardiologists are to be commended for their efforts throughout the accreditation process and for consistently providing high quality care.”
The ICCEL was established with the support of the American Society of Echocardiography, the American College of Cardiology, and the Society of Pediatric Echocardiography to provide a peer review mechanism to encourage and recognize the provision of quality echocardiographic diagnostic evaluations by a process of voluntary accreditation.
