Mercy Hospital Service Spotlight: Cath Lab

Mercy Hospital of Buffalo's Catheterization (Cath) Lab is made up of 40 registered nurses and invasive interventional technicians.

Cath lab services include:

diagnostic cardiology such as angiograms;
interventional cardiology such as angioplasty and electrophysiology (EP) procedures;
neurology such carotid, and
cerebral angioplasty and stenting; and peripheral vascular procedures such as thrombectomy.

Nurses and techs scrub and assist physicians at the surgical table with procedures.

Nurses administer medications and care for patients while techs are responsible for monitoring and documenting the procedures.

Mercy Hospital received the HealthGrades® Coronary Intervention Excellence Award and was ranked among the top 10% in the nation for Coronary Interventional Procedures for two years in a row, 2011 and 2012.
