Kenmore Mercy Hospital is pleased to announce that neurologist George Kalonaros, MD, is the 2012 winner of the Doctor of Distinction Award. Dr. Kalonaros has been the director of Stroke Services at Kenmore Mercy Hospital since 2008.
His efforts were integral in Kenmore Mercy achieving New York State Stroke Designation in 2006, Joint Commission Stroke Certification in 2011, and most recently, the American Stroke Associations Get With The Guidelines Stroke Silver Plus Award in June 2012.
Nominations spoke of how Dr. Kalonaros exemplifies Kenmore Mercy’s mission and values, incorporates excellence into everything he does, shows respect and kindness toward patients and staff, and dedicates himself to the importance of stroke treatment and care.
“Dr. Kalonaros’ kindness and compassion toward the patients he services is evident in everything he does. From the initial visit to the extensive follow up from both himself as well as his staff, shows his commitment to his patients and his general concern for their well-being,” said one Doctor of Distinction nomination.
Dr. Kalonaros received his doctorate from the University of Athens in Greece. He also completed a medical internship at St. Michael’s Medical Center in Newark, NJ, and a neurology residency at Millard Fillmore Hospital in Buffalo.
Nominations for the Doctor of Distinction Award come from hospital staff, volunteers, and fellow physicians, as well as patients and their families.
